A FOOTBALL fanatic who got a taste for punditry has met his heroes and found himself in front of the cameras again after impressing a sport TV giant.

Kevin Clarke, 47, from Worthing won a national competition to be crowned Talksport’s People’s Pundit last year and has been in the limelight again, this time on BT Sport.

He attended the Liverpool v West Ham FA Cup tie on January 30, which ended in the most boring of all 0-0 draws, but the BT sales director’s afternoon was anything but drab.

Mr Clarke interviewed David James live on BT Sport before he and son Jacob, 15, were invited back to the former England keeper’s trailer to chat football with him and Harry Redknapp.

He said: “We spent a couple of hours with Jamo and then Harry Redknapp, was amazing chewing the fat about the footy.

“Jamo told us Capello was the best England manager, that his peak was at 36, that he had and aspiration to coach and go into management as he’d already done it in India and Iceland.

“They were filming the Sport Relief Bake-Off at the time and he told us all about the difficulties of baking his cake.

“Then Harry joined us and said the best atmosphere was found at Anfield when it was rocking and told us about how his dad used to take him to Arsenal where he stood on a manhole cover as a kid so he could see.

“We also got to briefly meet Michael Owen and Steve McMannaman who signed a programme for us.

“It was an amazing experience.”

After winning the Talksport competition, which saw him report from Steven Gerrard’s final game for Liverpool, he contacted the hierarchy at BT.

Mr Clarke said: “I work for BT so I made contact with head of BT Sport – Simon Green – and we exchanged the odd email.

“He was on the tube and picked up a copy of the Sport freebie magazine and saw a big piece on me.

“He said I was on to something and said he’d be in touch and then he just told me to keep that weekend open.

“I’d love to do more – it’s never something you say no to.”
