A CAR rolled on to its roof in an accident that left one person being cut free by fire crews and another given ambulance attention.

Emergency services went to the A22 Willingdon Drove at the Shinewater roundabout in Eastbourne at 9.48am today.

The road was closed both ways for several hours after what was labelled a serious accident involving a maroon-coloured saloon car.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "Two crews were sent, where they were met by a car on its roof, with one person trapped inside.

"Both ambulance and police attended and one person was cut free from the wreckage. A second person was also left in the care of paramedics."

A Secamb spokeswoman added: "A 19-year-old man was treated by ambulance crews for, what were thought to be, minor injuries and taken to the Conquest Hospital."

A police spokesman said the accident damaged traffic lights and associated roadside signs.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the single-vehicle crash.
