A HOSPITAL accident and emergency doctor has called on Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to resign.

Consultant Rob Galloway said Mr Hunt’s decision to impose a new contract on doctors later this year would be severely damaging for the NHS.

Dr Galloway, who works at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, has launched an online petition demanding the Prime Minister steps in and stops the contract being enforced.

It has received more than 4,000 signatures since it was created on Thursday.

Dr Galloway said: “Unless we can persuade the Government to change their mind about imposing this unsafe and unfair contract on junior doctors, then they will leave and the NHS future will be put into question.”

The BMA has warned strikes and legal actions are possibilities, while some junior doctors may refuse to sign new contracts which are due to be implemented from August.
