Sandi Toksvig - comedian, broadcaster, author and, most recently, political party co-founder.

It might seem like an unusual move but as her appointment taking over from Stephen Fry on QI this year makes her the first female presenter of a mainstream TV comedy show, Toksvig has a clear purpose - equality.

After trying and failing to engage existing political parties to ensure equality for women in the UK, an exasperated Toksvig and journalist and author Catherine Mayer decided to set up their own party.

To fund the party and its candidates - which Toksvig highlights is incredibly expensive - she is on tour.

Toksvig tried to strike the difficult balance of political party promotion as well as an (intentional) comedy show.

Any fans who had not read the show description might have been surprised - pleasantly, perhaps - by the push to join the Women's Equality Party and interviews with local members.

But Toksvig, armed with a Powerpoint presentation and a file of notes, hilariously rollicked through a history of sexism and dissected inequality, including startling examples from recent months.

The structured nature made the evening feel a little formal but her anecdotes bought the evening to life.

A thoroughly entertaining, as well as thought-provoking and educational, evening from the much-loved Danish-British treasure.

Four stars.
