A WELL-KNOWN Sussex busker is launching her debut album in the USA.

Kathryn Anderson can be seen every Wednesday and Friday outside Marks and Spencer in Terminus Road, Eastbourne.

The 25-year-old from Uckfield is often seen at other venues across the county and she first set her heart on recording her debut album in Nashville several years ago.

"I did not wish to follow the increasingly popular crowd funding route, neither did I want to accrue a heap of debt to make it happen,’ she said.

"Consequently every spare penny from pub and club gigs plus numerous afternoons busking in all weathers has been meticulously saved to fund this project."

Songs on the album – called Black Sheep - are largely drawn from experience.

"Off This Plane (Are We There Yet)" takes a light hearted look at the negative side of long haul flights endured over several trips to Tennessee, while "Calling June" was written as a homage to the vagaries of British weather from a street performer's perspective.

During several trips to Nashville Kathryn has acquired a great deal of experience in writing, recording and performing and regular gigs in the back room at Tootsie's in the historic musical city in Tennessee have resulted in the inclusion of a Willie Nelson tribute number in her live set.

"Music is my full-time occupation. It's fun but it can also be very difficult," she said.

"I describe myself as a country singer songwriter and I like to go to Nashville three times a year, where it is great to meet other writers. This is my first full length album and I am very excited.

"I called it Black Sheep because it is about knowing who you are. I love traditional country music.

"Music is a very competitive business, I am sure everyone would expect that to be the case, but it is great spending my life doing what I love. That is very important to me.

"A normal busking session for me is around two and a half hours, and how much I get depends on so many things, including the town itself and of course the weather."

Kathryn will also be performing at the Underground Theatre in Eastbourne on April 16.
