A CHARITY is hoping to find new caring owners for a dog who was found with more than 100 shotgun pellets inside her.

Hazel the dog was found living by a roadside close to CRAPAA dog shelter in Caldas Da Rainha in Portugal and caring for two puppies.

When vets x-rayed Hazel they found too many pellets to remove safely from her and so had to start her on treatment to counteract the blood poisoning caused by the lead.

Hazel is currently being cared for by shelter volunteer Gillian Schifreen who now hopes that a kindly animal lover living in or around Brighton will take her in.

Mrs Schifreen said: "She is a fantastic dog who despite her terrible experiences is very friendly and affectionate.

"She is house trained so was clearly somebody's pet at some time.

"We really don't want her going back to the shelter as unlike the UK the Portuguese only tend to adopt small puppies and due to her ordeal we would love to find her a home in the UK."
