A COUNTRY market reaching its 40th birthday in style and is hoping to attract more supporters.

The members of Southwick and Shoreham Country Market are celebrating the group’s milestone this month.

Established by the Women’s Institute back in 1976, the popular Market sells homebaked or homemade goodies, handmade crafts, homegrown plants and more – all made and grown by local people for local people.

Frances Burt, the market manager, said: “It’s a wonderful achievement that the Market is celebrating its ruby anniversary this month and a real testament to the quality of items baked, made and grown which keep customers returning week after week.’

Over the past 40 years the market has become a favourite fixture in Southwick, and is run by around 10 like-minded local people who enjoy cooking, growing and craft.

New, and previous, customers are welcome to visit the Market between 9.15am and 11.45am on Fridays in The Porter Room at Southwick Community Centre, in Southwick Street.
