A CUBAN artist has unveiled a painting inspired by his move to Sussex.

Alberto Martinez Hernandez shows off well-known Brighton and Hove landmarks in his surreal painting such as the Palace Pier and the i360.

Speaking in January while working on this picture, called Kaleidoscope, he said: “I was inspired both creatively and personally by the multiculturalism and diversity within the city, which I was not used to up to that point.

“I’ve been here for seven years now, and even though it feels like home, sometimes I find myself looking at places and buildings as if I’m seeing them for the first time.”

Alberto was born in Cuba before he went to study at the Fine Arts Academy in Trinidad. In 2009 he made the move to Brighton.

He said: “I’m looking to encapsulate the drama of living in a diverse society. That is why I named it Kaleidoscope.”
