A THRIFTY mum who made a name for herself by forgoing toilet paper has been nominated for an award.

Zoe Morrison has been nominated for the Mum and Dad Blog Awards in recognition of her website which gives hints and tips on how to live an eco-friendly and frugal life.

She is one of six finalists in the thrifty category out of more than 7,000 entrants.

The mother-of-two said: "I love blogging, I’m really grateful to everyone who nominated me and I’m so excited to have reached the finals of the awards – it is such an honour."

The 36-year-old, of Hangleton, previously told The Argus how she saves herself more than £11,000 a year by re-thinking the way she shopped and the products she used.

She made changes to her lifestyle after going on maternity leave and deciding she did not want to return to her busy job as an auditor with a long commute.

She looked at her household expenditure and scrutinised the 'green' credentials of the products she was buying.

She gave up shampoo for a year, used bicarbonate of soda instead of toothpaste for a couple of months and also went without toilet paper for a month.

She also rented a room out to a lodger and installed solar panels.

She was always keen on buying organic produce but also found cheaper ways of doing this like growing her own food.

Supporters have until May 27 to vote for their favourite blogs across 14 categories at tots100.co.uk/awards. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in London on September 16.

Founder of the awards Sally Whittle said: "Parent blogs are the new bible for modern parents – more than 10 million of us turn to blogs for tips, entertainment and support every single month, and our finalists represent the very best of those blogs. "It’s such a diverse community, with inspiring posts, pictures and videos on every topic you can imagine."
