A SCHOOL has installed a defibrillator after making a pledge to The Argus Save a Life campaign.

Staff, visitors and pupils at Southway Junior School in Burgess Hill were given a machine by the Burgess Hill District Lions.

Lion President Christine Coxshaw , along with members Cliff Coxshaw and Tony Parris, were joined by headteacher Pete Newbold, school governor Chris Mendez and pupils for a special ceremony.

The machine, which can kick-start a heart which has gone into cardiac arrest, is installed in the school dining room.

Mr Newbold said “We are extremely grateful to Burgess Hill District Lions for their generous donation.

“To have this vital life-saving piece of equipment at our school and available for the local community is extremely reassuring.”

Mrs Coxshaw said: “We are delighted to be presenting the defibrillator and cabinet, worth in the region of £1,000, to the school.”

All staff at the school will be provided with training and an assembly is planned for all the children to understand the importance of the donation.

The Save a Life campaign is calling on schools, hotels, businesses, clubs and charities across Sussex to install defibrillators on their premises or in their communities in a bid to improve survival rates for cardiac arrests.
