“It’s a yes from me!” That’s what “in-flight crew” applicants hope to hear after they are put through their paces in an X-Factor style job interview to work at Brighton’s newest seafront attraction.

And the prospect of wearing British Airways uniforms in the jobs is generating plenty of excitement among candidates.

They hope to land jobs such as “in flight crew”, who will act as host to visitors, box office and retail assistants; security assistants and housekeeping crew at the £46 million British Airways i360, the world’s first vertical cable car.

The attraction, which has an observation pod rising to 138 metres and holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s most slender tower, is sponsored by British Airways so at two upcoming recruitment days hopefuls will enjoy a welcome and check-in before competition for places begins.

Round one includes a rapid fire interview and group exercise before round two begins, with a more rigorous interview and assessment.

In-flight crew, ticket office and retail staff will be expected to wear the British Airways uniform “with pride” while security, boarding and engineering staff will don a slightly different version.

And to help the flight theme take off, the ticket office will be check-in style, customers will be welcomed on board their “flight”, and the tickets will resemble airline boarding passes.

British Airways i360 CEO Eleanor Harris said: “The British Airways uniform is creating some excitement among applicants. We are designing a more casual British Airways i360 branded uniform for our teams working in security, in our boarding area and in engineering, so lots of staff will be able to represent the company in style.”

Bosses of British Airways i360 have already held one recruitment day with two more scheduled at the Hilton Brighton Metropole in Brighton on June 7 and 8.

Ms Harris said: “Several candidates for the in-flight crew positions had an acting background so were natural performers. We’ve seen some very high standard candidates.”

More than 100 full and part-time jobs are up for grabs at the 162-metre-high tower, designed by architect-entrepreneurs David Marks and Julia Barfield. The job spec for the “in-flight crew” asks applicants if they can deliver a world-class visitor experience, be a welcoming host full of enthusiasm and energy, and be cool and calm in a crisis. Described the job as “a unique role at this unique venue”, it also tells applicants that they will be responsible for ensuring the safety of guests during their “flight” on the cable car.
