A MARATHON football match lasting more than 105 hours is underway to raise money in memory of two victims of the Shoreham Airshow disaster.

Endurance players are hoping to raise thousands for charity in the extended match in memory of Worthing United players Matt Grimstone and Jacob Schilt.

The game was originally set-up to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of county league player Matt Chaplain who died from a cardiac arrest in April 2013 aged just 38.

It was then decided it would also be held in memory of Mr Grimstone and Mr Schilt.

A total of 36 players from Heartbeat United FC, including Grimstone’s brother Paul, are attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the longest-ever continuous football match.

The game kicked in the grounds of Lancing College on Thursday at 6am and the record will be broken on Monday at 6pm.

Albion defender Liam Rosenior helped get the world-record attempt rolling by delivering the match ball to the memorial game for the former Albion groundsman Matt Grimstone and Seagulls fan Jacob Schilt.

The pair were just 23-years-old when they were tragically killed in the Shoreham Airshow disaster last August.

Part of the funds from the eleven-a-side match will help pay for a memorial in their honour.

The public is being encouraged to attend the game over the bank holiday weekend to give the rolling squad of players support and assistance.

Sunday and Monday will be public open days for all the family to enjoy with bouncy castles, face painting, raffle draws and silent auctions.

A number of slots are available for visitors to volunteer at the event in a number of wide-ranging roles, including being a physio at the match or to help out with the catering.
