Ed Joyce and Luke Wells both made centuries as Sussex hammered home their position of dominance on the second day against Derbyshire.

Joyce followed up his 250 against the same opponents three weeks ago by making 106 while Wells was unbeaten on 104 at the close.

There were also half centuries for Chris Nash and Ross Taylor as Sussex cruised effortlessly to 342-4 against a powder-puff Derbyshire attack.

That gave them an already imposing lead of 192 after Steve Magoffin (4-23) took the final Derbyshire wicket in the morning to bowl the visitors out for 150.

Joyce and Nash put 113 for the opening wicket before Nash was bowled by a full toss from part-time spinner Wayne Madsen for 65.

Joyce moved to his 44th first class hundred from 165 balls by lofting Madsen for six over extra cover but the same bowler dismissed him soon afterwards when he was caught at leg slip.

Wells – who had put on 135 for the second wicket with Joyce – followed up his century at Derbyshire with his 11th first class ton from 180 balls.

Taylor raced to his fourth half century of the season from just 53 balls but was then caught behind driving at Tom Taylor for 54.

Matt Machan spoiled an otherwise perfect day for Sussex when he was dismissed from the final ball, chipping a drive off Tom Taylor to extra cover after making just six.
