FATHERS may be more in touch with their caring side these days - but learning a dance routine with a baby strapped to their chest remains something to be admired.

That's exactly what a group of dads for a fellow father to unwell to be with his own children.

Daniel Mason, 43, has been in hospital since collapsing at home last September, and is now in a rehabilitation unit in Putney, London.

Unable to be with his children due to the heart attack which has left him seriously brain damaged, the eight dads got together at New Fit studios in York Place in Brighton and danced to 'Daddy Cool' with their children strapped to their chests.

The routine was filmed and released on social on Father's Day (Sunday June 19) to raise money for graphic designer Mr Mason's care as well as for his wife Sabrina, and their two children, Chloe, two, and Amelie, one.

Chloe Ashley, who organised the event and teaches Sling Swing classes at New Fit, said: "I met Sabrina last year through a parents' support group on Facebook which she set up.

"She has two little girls of similar ages to mine, so we had a lot in common.

"We were all devastated by what happened to Dan - but also in awe of how strong their family is.

"None of the dads know Dan or the Masons personally but all felt moved to give something special to the family for Father's Day this year, in the hope that it will help Dan get closer to his goal of being able to see and cuddle his babies again."

Dad-of-three Simon Steeden, 36, from Hove, took part with his six-month old twins, Gus and Emmy, strapped to his front and back.

He said: "We heard about the Mason family through Chloe and I thought it would be a a nice way to help - by all accounts they are a lovely family and have been through an incredibly difficult time.

"I would like to put my dancing down to having twins attached to me, but I am not sure.

"I just hope it helps the fundraising."

Generous donors have so far donated £28,246 to the Mason family, of Hove, through an fundraising page set up by Mrs Mason last year.
