QUEUES of up to five miles are being reported on the A27 after a serious crash involving a motorcyclist.

The accident happened shortly before 6am near to one of the entrances to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, near Chichester.

It has led to significant traffic jams in the area, stretching back from Goodwood to the A27 Chichester by-pass.

A motorcyclist and a vehicle were in crashed on Kennel Hill, just north of the Kennels and close to Gate 4 - one of the main entrances to this weekend's Festival of Speed at Goodwood.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and has been treated by paramedics at the scene.

Marshals assisted police officers with local road closures, including Pook Lane and Chalk Pit Lane.

A Sussex Police spokesman said motorists are being asked to avoid the area if at all possible and to show patience if unfortunately caught in the jams.
