MYSTERY surrounds reports of a fight involving a man with an axe.
Police were called to reports of the disturbance in New Road, Brighton, in the early hours of Saturday.
When they arrived they found an axe but no-one involved, and there were no reports of any injuries.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We went down there quickly and recovered an axe, but could not find anybody making any complaint they had been assaulted and no obvious sign [of that]."
Enquiries continue. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101, quoting reference 749 of June 25.
