THE former Mayor of Brighton and Hove has handed over a cheque for more than £60,000 to her three chosen charities.
Councillor Lynda Hyde, who held the office up until May this year, gathered representatives from The Argus Appeal, Grace Eyre and The Martlets last week.
During her year she raised a record £63,700, which will be split between the three.
The new Mayor, Pete West, has decided that this year he will break with the tradition of raising money for three chosen charities.
He has instead chosen 27 organisations, including four national groups, who will have permission to use the mayor’s crest.
The decision has been questioned by charity bosses and officials with fears the new approach will not generate as much money for good causes.
