ANY self-respecting Russian Oligarch tends to have a checklist for his English mansion.

And the top three in demand items usually includes a gym, a pool and a home cinema.

It’s the latter that Seven Integration is concerned with – alongside a whole range of other integrated home technology system.

Starting out with a hi-fi shop in Horsham 13 years ago, brothers Alex and Matt Josling soon noticed the internet had changed buying habits.

People used to buy electronics from their preferred shop, and bring them back to part-exchange when they had saved up for an upgrade it at shop.

But they were increasingly turning to EBay to buy and sell, and as footfall dropped off the brothers decided to dispense with the shop all together.

Initially working from a barn-office near Dorking, the business has since moving to Shoreham, then to Henfield.

As surround systems and basic home cinemas become more popular Seven Integration found itself becoming increasingly involved in control systems.

Alex said: “It really opened things up in terms of what you can do. We could start control other things such as AV, CCTV cameras, heating.

“For the business it was an evolution without any conscious thinking.

“It was two years ago that we realised this is where we should be focussing our attention.

“We realised if we started talking to architects and interior designers we could fit the same systems in houses before they were built, which makes it much easier.”

The evolution of the business is rooted in the ‘internet of things’, a term used to describe the networking of devices so they are connected and able to collect and exchange data.

As well as home music and cinema, are increasingly installing smart home systems, with a whole range of other electronics such as heating, security and lighting can be brought together into a single interface and adjusted by a single control device.

While much of their work is for high-net worth clients such as oligarchs and celebrities, with the technology rapidly developing, it is becoming more affordable.

But integrating so many systems together puts strain in internet network, so a big expenditure is often a server.

Currently based at Woodmancote, just on the other side of the South Downs, Seven Integration is looking for a new home in Brighton to showcase its work at an “experience centre”.
