A rescue operation to find a crewman lost overboard from a cargo ship in the English Channel has been called off.
Two all-weather RNLI lifeboats were launched on Friday evening after the crewman went missing 24 miles off Newhaven.
The Coastguard helicopter was scrambled to carry out search patterns around the area where he was last sighted.
But an RNLI spokesman said that after nearly four hours of searching, the lifeboats and helicopter were stood down. No body was found.
