LOCAL Labour party members have written to their national bosses calling for the suspension of their branch to be lifted immediately.

Three members of the Brighton, Hove and District Labour Party have written to the National Executive Committee calling for the suspension imposed earlier this month to be lifted immediately and the results from the AGM election to be reinstated.

The letter has been signed by Claire Wadey, who was elected treasurer before the results were declared void, and re-elected executive committee members Anne Pissaridou and Christine Robinson.

The letter states that count was conducted in a “comradely fashion”, was “exceptionally well-managed” and that the three members witnessed no irregularities throughout the day.

The trio have warned that the decision by the national chairwoman of the disputes panel to suspend the party will be seized upon by Labour’s opponents in the upcoming by-election on August 4.

The three members have also called for the disputes panel to be clearer about what offences the local party is accused of.

The letter also says it is “deeply unsatisfactory” that Labour’s largest single party unit in the country is banned from holding hustings for the upcoming leadership election.

Brighton and Hove Momentum held a meeting last night [Thursday] at the Friends’ Meeting House to discuss the letter.

Following the decision by the NEC, the local party’s previous executive have been reinstated to their posts until new elections are held in either October or November.
