A SINGER who spent five months in intensive care after suffering multiple organ failure is organising a charity night to raise funds for the hospital which saved his life.

Steve Daley, 46, a Technician at Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne, also had pneumonia and Steven Johnson Syndrome - a rare skin reaction to drugs.

On Saturday, September 10 he will be raising funds for the ITU (Intensive Therapy Unit) and the Jevington Ward, both at Eastbourne District General Hospital.

He will be joined on the night by radio DJ Ryan Millns, who also had a long stay at the DGH after severe asthma. and he is co-hosting the night with a DJ set.

Steve, under the alias Steve Squire, will be singing and playing the guitar with music from the 60s to modern day.

He said: "Since my ordeal in hospital over the last year I promised the nurses in intensive care that if I survived and could sing after three tracheotomies that I would come out of retirement and start singing again.

"I have kept my promise and am now organising this charity event."

Using the funds raised on the night, Steve is proposing to buy Tablet PCs for each bed, along with bed clamps to hold them.

He found his Tablet a real lifeline when he was in hospital trying to communicate with his family. Money left over will go to any machine or apparatus that is needed.

There will be a licensed bar, raffle and live music at the popular venue My Skate World in maple Road, Eastbourne, and Steve is calling on local businesses to offer raffle prizes.

Tickets are only available in advance by contacting Steve through the Facebook event page at £5, search Eastbourne DGH Charity Evening.
