DOZENS of gamers will go on a bar crawl with a difference this evening.

As instead of trying to consume as much alcohol as possible, the group will visit Brighton's bars and pubs trying to catch Pokemon.

Organisers have already had 70 enquiries by email with more than 50 signing up on Facebook.

Pokemon Go has taken the country by storm since being released on July 14.

Gamers use the GPS on their mobile phones to walk around the real world catching the virtual monsters like Pikachu and Jigglypuff.

They can collect lures and special powers from so-called Pokestops and can train them to battle at special Pokemon gyms.

The Pokemon Go Pub Crawl will see gamers meet at The Font, in Union Street, before visiting some of the city's best known pubs and bars collecting the animated characters.

Given that it is a pub crawl, there will be a number of drinking challenges, including forfeits for failing to catch the Pokemon.

The event is the brainchild of former Ibiza party organiser Keith Tomlinson.

He said: "I love to party and I love to play Pokemon Go, I think it's going to be great fun.

"I think the game is a great way to get people outside enjoying the weather and meeting new people.

"If Friday goes well I hope to make it a regular event."

The 31-year-old from Brighton has been out with his mobile phone researching the best bars and pubs for catching Pokemon as well as noting where the best Pokestops and Pokemon gyms are.

He is keeping his route for the night a secret but said it could change if they spot rare Pokemon.

He added: "It could all change if we discover a Charizard. That's the Pokemon everyone wants to catch."

While Keith is keeping many of the rules under wraps, he said that those who miss a shot (when trying to catch a Pokemon) will have to drink a shot (of alcohol).

There will also be prizes for the best fancy dress.

The collecting of Pokemon has proved to be a competitive business, which is something Keith is hoping to keep until control tonight.

He has a zero tolerance policy on aggressive behaviour and anyone acting in such a way can expect to be "poked off the crawl".

Tickets are still available priced at £6. Visit pokemongopubcrawl.co.uk.
