A young man from London has drowned off the coast of Sussex.

A body has been recovered following the disappearance of a young man who got into difficulties in the water off Camber Sands in East Sussex yesterday.

The search was called off at 9pm yestersay and the Coastguard report that a body was found late last night.

The incident occured yesterday when the man and two of his friends, all believed to have been down from London to enjoy the weekend sunshine by the coast, all got into difficulties in the sea on Sunday afternoon.

Two men have been rescued but the third was still missing yesterday evening.

Police assisted Coastguard and RNLI to search for the man.

A call was received around 12.30pm to reports of a man who had disappeared while swimming.

While on the beach, two men were found to have gone into cardiac arrest on the beach having got into difficulty in the sea.

Both men were given CPR by police officers before ambulance services were on scene.

Both men were then flown by helicopter to the William Harvey Hospital in Kent where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

Inspector Mark Evans said: "We are working to establish who these two men are and trace their family and friends."

"It seems this has been three people who have got into trouble while swimming with the changing tides and coastline."

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Dungeness and Rye, Coastguard rescue helicopters from Lydd and Solent, Rye, Hastings and Littlestone RNLI lifeboats and Pett Level Rescue Boat (an independent inshore boat) beach lifeguards and Police all helped with the search.
