A young man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a Worthing woman was killed in a car crash.

Early on Sunday morning the 26-year old was driving north on the A24 towards Washington when her car veered off and crashed at the side of the road.

The driver, from Worthing, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old Worthing man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed until 1 September pending further enquiries.

The woman had been driving north in a grey Ford Focus and was in the nearside lane of the dual carriageway between Findon and Washington.

A silver Kia LE car was believed to be alongside when the Focus suddenly left the carriageway and crashed into bushes and trees by the side of the road just after 5.30am.

The driver of the Kia, a 21-year-old man from Worthing, and his front seat passenger, a 23-year-old woman, also from Worthing, were both unhurt.

The A24 was closed northbound while the scene was cleared and investigations carried out.
