A MAN has had part of his ear bitten off after being attacked.

The incident happened in West Street, Burgess Hill, as the victim sat in his car at around 11pm on Monday July 11.

His assailant also caused damage to the car before eventually walking off.

The victim returned home where relatives took him to the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, for treatment to his injury.

He was transferred to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, and has since had a consultation at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.

Detective Constable Gilly Sadler said: "We have already conducted house-to-house enquiries but would welcome any further information about this particularly nasty assault, as a result of which a young man now faces reconstructive surgery to his right ear."

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and criminal damage. He has been bailed until September pending further enquiries.
