KEEN young footballers have been enjoying the first day of the summer coaching season at a Brighton-born football star's academy.

The Russell Martin Academy, which has five centres around Brighton and Hove, provides elite level coaching for children of all abilities aged five to 16, with the emphasis on fun.

Martin was born in Brighton and played for the Albion's youth teams. He is now captain of Norwich City with international caps for Scotland to his name.

A spokesman for the venue said: "Some academies can be too focused on goals and training but this is really focused on having fun and enjoying the summer."

He went on: "We are delighted that yesterday saw the first day of the summer soccer courses run by the new Russell Martin Academy at various venues across the local area.

"They offer children of all abilities the chance to have fun whilst improving their football skills (led by lead coach Sergio Torres)."
