A MAN was robbed and beaten by the grounds of a Cathedral.

The 22-year-old man Chichester man was left with fractures to his lower jaw, just after midnight on Sunday July 17 outside Waterstones bookshop in West Street, Chichester.

He had been chatting with a group of men and women in their early 20s in the grounds of Chichester Cathedral, opposite the Dolphin and Anchor pub and was followed to a cash point when he decided not to withdraw any money.

Two men then followed him and both punched him in the face before walking off in the direction of the cathedral grounds.

The man found his wallet and phone were missing, and discovered the full extent of his injuries after he went to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, for treatment.

The attackers were both white and in their early 20s. One was 6 ft, of stocky/medium build, suntanned, with chubby cheeks and short dark brown hair, worn longer on top.

The second man was 5 ft 11, slim, with pale skin and short curly fair hair. He was wearing a dark long-sleeved top and dark trousers.
