A SPECIAL ceremony will be held to mark the first anniversary of the Shoreham Airshow disaster on the historic bridge which became the focal point for the county’s grief.

Flowers will be laid on Shoreham Tollbridge and a minute’s silence held at 1.22pm on Monday August 22 to mark the first anniversary of the Shoreham Air Show tragedy.

West Sussex County Council will mark the minute’s silence across all of its offices and flags will be flown at half-mast at council buildings.

Local churches will also be coming together to hold a church service for the community at 11am on Saturday 20 August at St Mary de Haura with a service organised by Shoreham Churches Together.

Flowers left on the tollbridge to mark the anniversary will be left for a week before being moved to a temporary memorial area.

Councillor Louise Goldsmith, leader of West Sussex County Council will take part in the service and lay flowers at the tollbridge.

She said: “Throughout the last year our thoughts have been with the families who lost loved ones.

"This tragedy has had a massive impact on the community and touched so many lives.

“It is right that one year on we are coming together again, laying flowers and holding a minute’s silence so that we can have a time of reflection.

“I know that across Shoreham, around West Sussex and further afield, people will also be remembering those who died.”
