A STUDENT has been caught speeding in excess of 120mph while almost twice the drink-drive limit.

Anderson Bell, 25, was spotted driving a silver Volkswagen Golf at speed by police officers in an unmarked vehicle.

They began persuing him at about 1pm on June 30 on the A23 southbound near Albourne.

Officers signalled for Bell to pull over in a layby just past the junction of the A2300.

Bell, was arrested and taken into custody at Brighton Police Station, where he was subsequently charged with driving with 68mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system and speeding. The legal drink-drive limit is 35mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Bell, of Western Road, Brighton, pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates' Court on July 14 and was disqualified from driving for 18 months.

He was also ordered to pay a £240 fine, £85 costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
