A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a crash this morning closed a major road.
Police were called to the A27 near Patcham at 3.56am to find that a car had collided with the central reservation and saw a man running away from the scene of the accident.
They gave chase and caught the man, a 24 year old from Crawley, who was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and taken to the Royal Sussex county hospital as a precaution.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident.
The collision caused the road to be closed in both directions for around two hours while police cleared up debris which had obstructed all four lanes of the road.
The A27 was reopened just before 6am.
