DETECTIVES believe they know the identity of the suspect they are hunting over the fatal stabbing of a man.

The body of a 50-year-old man was discovered on Tuesday lunchtime at a house in Osmonde Close in Broadwater, Worthing.

Officers had to break into the property to get to the body which was lying inside the property.

It is believed the victim could have died between Saturday afternoon and sometime on Sunday.

Detective Chief Inspector Tanya Jones, of Sussex Police, said: "Crime scene investigators continue to work at the house and the body has yet to be removed, but we believe that he died as a result of being stabbed.

"A knife has been recovered from the scene.

"We are satisfied that we know the identity of the victim, but we have not yet traced his next of kin, so he will not be formally identified at this time.

"We are currently seeking a man who we would like to speak to in connection with this incident, but we believe this to be contained to two people who knew each other and he is not regarded as a threat to other members of the public."

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area between Saturday afternoon and Monday lunchtime, especially anybody seen entering or leaving the property.

Those with information should call 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Waterhouse.
