FANCY being part of the Snowdog Patrol?

The Martlets is calling for volunteers to guide visitors around the arts trail of 44 giant, individually-decorated Snowdog sculptures when they hit the streets next month.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to flock to the city to take part in the walking tour to see the artwork and learn more about Brighton and Hove along the way.

The project will raise funds for the charity's hospice care and will be the biggest arts trail the area has ever seen.

As artists put finishing touches to their secret designs, the charity is putting together a team of helpers - the Snowdog Patrol - who can be on hand to give information and tips.

Organisers are looking for people who are enthusiastic, friendly, helpful and will be happy to march around the streets in all weathers.

Applicants have until the end of the week to sign up.

Sally Brighton will be helping to pick and organise the volunteers for The Martlets.

She said: "When the Snowdogs hit the streets this is a chance for people to feel proud of what's going on and be part of it. It's very like the Game Makers at the Olympics and a chance to take ownership of this opportunity.

"Being part of the Snowdog Patrol will give people a chance to develop skills, build confidence, and meet new people. This is a chance to help make the Snowdogs by the Sea trail a great event and help The Martlets.

"We are looking for people who are prepared to march around the streets in all weathers, who are cheerful and personable. We will be asking them to demonstrate these skills before the team is selected."

Volunteers will receive training where they will learn all about the trail, the dogs, the artists and how they can promote it to visitors.

The Martlets is looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of eight shifts, typically one a week between September 24 and November 27 - but there is flexibility.

Sally added: "This is in order to make sure there is the training and continuity that we want to make this a success. The volunteers will be in pairs and will be given a patch and a handful of dogs in their area. They will be able to tell the public where to buy merchandise, how to get to the next dog and how to access special offers."
