Sussex Police have reported Katie Hopkins to Twitter for carrying out an offensive poll about the Camber Sands deaths.

The poll asked followers to complete the sentence "5 dead at Camber Sands were..." with a series of negative, joke answers.

Five men died in the sea tragedy near Rye on Wednesday.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "At about 10.30am on Thursday (August 25), Sussex Police was made aware of a tweet, which the force considered to be insensitive. This has been reported to Twitter.

"Our primary concern is for the thoughts and feelings of the next of kin of those who sadly died at Camber."

The Argus:

The force responded to complaints about Hopkins's comments on Twitter, saying the poll was "incredibly insensitive, although not criminal. We suggest reporting her to @Twitter. We have already".

The Sussex Police Twitter account added: "Simply not appropriate to joke about five deaths the day after the incident."

Hopkins's tweet was reported under the categories "abusive or harmful" and "disrespectful or offensive".

It has now been removed.
