THIS bank holiday weekend lifeguards will be stationed on the beach where five men drowned on Wednesday.
The announcement by Rother District Council that patrols will provide extra safety for bathers at Camber Sands in East Sussex follows repeated assurances that the beach was "safe" and did not require patrols.
Sally Ann Hart, head of tourism at the council, said that the beach had been "categorised as a safe beach" with no need for lifeguards.
Nonetheless they will be statonbed there across this weekend, for which the met office forecasts hot sunny weather across the south coast.
