A BURGER joint that serves up patties with a personal touch has been named one of the best in the country.

Burger Brothers, in North Street, Brighton has shown they definitely cut the mustard by being named the best burger in the South East in the Best British Burger contest.

The takeaway is now waiting to find out if they are crowned the nation's burger kings.

After only three years in the business, chef Nadz Nwokoro and co-owner Pip Ravindra have created a top reputation among foodies.

Nadz claims to eat burgers five days a week and never gets bored of the patties.

He puts the success down to their hands on approach.

He said: "I have made every single burger since we opened. No one else is on the grill.

"It's about making sure you get the very best experience every time.

"There is a lot of detail that goes into the process.

"Because it is just us we can really focus on it. Every morning Pip comes in and slices the buns and I'm frying the onions.

"It's that personal touch."

He added: "We have a personal relationship with our butcher and baker and all our suppliers and know where everything comes from.

"I do still like to try burgers in other places, but I never think they're as good as ours.

"I don't eat burgers when I'm not working but Tuesday to Sunday, I'm here from 7am to 10.30pm and eat burgers everyday.

"They're not junk food, they're good quality so I never get sick of them."

Pip added: "It is nice to get this kind of recognition.

"The competition in particular in Brighton is really high.

"But it's great to be told we're better.

"We are a small independent business doing everything for ourselves. We cant believe how well it has gone, especially as neither of us has ever been in the catering industry before.

"It has always been our plan to expand but we want to do that carefully.

"The reason we can do everything the way we do is because we do it ourselves.

"It is really just home cooking, and when you scale up it is hard to keep the same quality."
