A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of 19-year-old Shana Grice.

Michael Lane, 27, a tyre and exhaust fitter of Thornhill Rise, Portslade, was charged by police shortly after 8pm on Friday.

He appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court this morning flanked by two guards and wearing a white t-shirt, grey jogging bottoms and trainers.

He spoke only to confirm his name, address, date of birth and that he understood the charges against him.

He was remanded in custody to appear before a judge at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday, September 6.

Miss Grice was found dead at her home in Chrisdory Road, Portslade, on Thursday, August 25.

Lane was initially arrested in Burgess Hill and taken in to custody. Magistrates granted police extra time to question him. He was later released on bail. He was re-arrested yesterday.
