AN INFLUENTIAL health expert praised hospital staff for their efforts to improve patient care during a recent visit.
Professor Chris Ham, chief executive of the prestigious health charity King’s Fund, was given a tour around Worthing Hospital.
His arrival followed Western Sussex Hospital NHS Trust’s outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission earlier this year.
Prof Ham spent time in the A&E department and emergency Floor and observed a short meeting on Botolphs stroke ward.
The 15-minute daily meetings give staff an opportunity to raise issues and work through solutions with colleagues.
Prof Ham said: “I’ve seen some powerful examples of improvement today that the rest of the NHS can learn from.
“This is an organisation that is investing in its staff, helping them to make a meaningful contribution, while all the time focussing on the needs of patients.”
