Fire crews were called to a blaze in a third-floor flat which saw one person led to safety.

The fire took hold in Heron Court, Swanborough Place, Brighton, yesterday just before 4.30pm.

Crews used two hoses to put out the flames.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "We received nine repeat calls from members of the public.

"We sent two fire engines from Brighton, one from Hove, one from Roedean, one from Newhaven, one from Uckfield and a control unit from Lewes.

"One person was led to safety by the fire service."

He said six fire engines were sent because of working practices involving high-rise buildings.

Crews left the scene at 6.15pm.

A fire investigation is being carried out and the cause is not clear.
