A man has appeared in court in connection with two armed robberies.

Liam Newman, 30, a building labourer of no fixed address, was charged by police after robberies at Sompting Mini-Market in Seadown Parade, Sompting, on August 13 and at Ladbrokes in Rowlands Road, Worthing on August 18.

He was also charged with after a man was assaulted in his home in St Elmo Road, Worthing, on August 6.

He appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on today (Monday, September 26).

Detective Inspector Alan Pack, of Sussex Police, said: "The firearms and robbery charges are in relation to two robberies from a recent series in Worthing being investigated by a dedicated team of detectives.

"The investigation in to the robberies is far from complete and my team will continue with a large number of further enquiries.

"The local policing team will continue to provide reassurance patrols in the Worthing area."
