THE very first Snowdog will go under the hammer tonight.

A Snowpuppy called Laika will be revealed for the first time at the Artrepublic gallery tonight, making it the first sculpture to be auctioned in aid of The Martlets.

It has been decorated by Brighton artist Joe Webb with a space theme that has a twist as part of the Snowdogs by the Sea art trail, which launched around the city at the weekend.

Lindsay Alkin, director at Artrepublic said: “We’re really excited about revealing the Joe Webb Snowpuppy. We’ll be hosting a silent auction on the night and the winning bidder will get to keep the Snowpuppy once the trail has come to an end. It’s been fantastic to see how much people are interacting with the dogs since the launch and they will become fantastic pieces of memorabilia in years to come.”

Once she is bid for in the silent auction, Laika will be on display in the window of the Bond Street gallery during of the trail. A limited edition print by Joe will also be up for sale.

The giant Snowdogs will be auctioned off in December after the public art trail has finished.

The auction takes place from 6.30pm to 8.30pm tonight.
