STOP damaging Snowdogs now or you will be named and shamed.

That is the message today from supporters of the charity trail which raises money for terminally ill patients after more pictures emerged of vandalised sculptures.

The Argus reported yesterday how Dudley the Snowdog by St Peter’s Church was scrawled with graffiti twice within days of the trail launch and a large crack was found on his back.

The damage has been repaired and the graffiti carefully cleaned so as not to damage the design.

Today it emerged Gizmo, the Snowdog at The Level, had also been sprayed with graffiti. This has also been cleaned.

People continue to climb on the delicate pieces of art despite signs asking them to refrain. Yesterday council and police bosses warned vandals could face prosecution.

A Twitter page @Snowdogyobs has been set up to discourage anyone from damaging the dogs. The Argus will name and shame those seen to be flouting the rules.

Businesses pledged thousands of pounds to The Marlets hospice to pay for the sculptures to be made and decorated.

Artists spent hours decorating them with unique designs.

The charity needs the giant sculptures to stay in a good condition until an auction in December where it is hoped they will sell for hundreds of thousands of pounds to pay for care for patients.

Apart from these incidents the campaign had been a huge success, they said.

Yesterday outraged supporters of the trail urged CCTV to be installed to catch vandals in the act and make them donate to the cause.

Jenny Upton said: “This is disgusting. We went on a walkabout on Saturday to spot some with the children and it was nice seeing Martlets volunteers armed and ready to get rid of any vandalism but they shouldn't have to.

"Why can't people just leave them alone, especially as it's for a good cause too.”

Claire Simmons added: “This makes me very angry. Martlets did a lot for my mum when she spent her last few days there. Please stop sitting in them and drawing on them and anything else that causes them to get destroyed. Please think of the money that can be raised that might help a member of your family one day.”
