A MAN has suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the chest.

The 25 year old was walking walking with a friend in Gloucester Lane in Wick, near Littlehampton, at around 9.05pm on Wednesday.

Two young men ran towards the pair from behind causing the man's friend, a 24-year-old woman from Bognor, to run off.

He was stabbed in the chest and the pair ran away. They were both described as young, around 6', of slim build and wearing dark clothing with hooded tops. One of them is believed to be white, the other black.

Police and ambulance crews responded within minutes and the man was taken to hospital.

Detective Sergeant Alex Lowe said: "The victim suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and currently remains in a stable condition in hospital.

"If it had not been for the prompt attention he received from medical professionals, the outcome could have been a lot worse.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV in the area or who heard or saw anything suspicious.”
