A 15-YEAR-OLD has been expelled after police went into his school and arrested him on suspicion of possessing class A and B drugs .

Police were called to Blatchington Mill school in Nevill Avenue, Hove, on Tuesday (September 27), and the boy was taken out of class in front of shocked classmates and taken away in a police van.

The Argus understands the drugs he is suspected of possessing are MDMA and cannabis inside school. MDMA is the drug normally used to make the party drug ecstasy and is also taken on its own.

The schoolboy has been bailed while enquiries continue.

A spokesman for the mixed comprehensive school said drugs were a tragedy and would never be tolerated at the school.

A student who was at school when the arrest happened told The Argus: "It was quite shocking. He was pulled out of class and taken away in a police van. Everyone was watching and talking about it afterwards."

A mother whose son attends the school said: "As the mother of a son at the school I find it quite disturbing that drugs might be there.

"I am glad the school has taken action and I hope they get to the bottom of it, and get somewhere towards stopping this ever happening again."

Blatchington Mill was rated good at its latest Ofsted report in 2013, with inspectors praising teaching and high expectations.

A school spokesman said: “Drugs will never be tolerated at our school, and we always inform the police of any situation involving them.

"We have a very clear policy against drugs, and whilst we are fortunate that this is a very rare occurrence in school we have had to take the decision in line with school policy to permanently exclude the student involved.

"Drugs are a tragedy. We’re working in partnership with all schools, the local authority, and the police in the city to make young people are safe and this an issue that we are collectively committed to solving.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class B drugs at a school in Hove on Tuesday (September 27).
