A MAN who has worn a different fancy dress costume every day for a year finished his 12 month charity challenge in a Mr Blobby outfit.

Aaron Lawrence has graced the streets of Brighton as a parrot, a dinosaur, the devil and numerous other eye-catching characters over the last 365 days and raised more than £12,000 for a mental health charity.

Yesterday he donned his pièce de resistance, a full body costume of the outrageous Noel's House Party character who had a much-maligned Christmas Number One in 1993.

The , 35-year-old told The Argus: "I've had it in my wardrobe for most of the year and it's the only thing I've been too scared to wear, so yesterday was the day.

"I have had such a fun year. On Thursday I was a parrot. I've had a lot of things donated but I've learned how to make things too. I think I've spent less in the last year than I would have done if I'd been buying myself normal clothes.

"I've chopped up my whole wardrobe to make outfits, so really the question is what I'm going to wear on Saturday."

The University of Sussex astrophysics student from Brighton, who works as a chef in the Bedford Tavern, Western Street, has had a lifelong love of dressing up, and decided to launch his "My Costume Drama" initiative to raise money for Mind Out, a mental health charity focused on the needs of the LGBT community.

His justgiving page has received more than £12,300 in donations.

He said: "I think the way they do it is great, the service is run by people who've lived the mental health experience and they offer a lot of peer support.

"I think that gives a support network to people who can often feel really isolated and alone. It's a ready-made friendship group."

His husband Matt Richards, 40, said: "It's nearly over, but it has been good fun.

"I don't even notice it any more, in fact he looks really weird to me in jeans and a t-shirt when he's getting ready."
