WORKERS competed in a series of unique challenges to raise funds for a charity which strives to make life better for sick children in Sussex.

The first Crazy Rockinghorse Sportathon - in aid of Rockinghorse Rockinghorse Children’s Charity - was held at the 1st Central County Ground in Hove, home of Sussex County Cricket Club.

Teams of six pitted their wits, sporting prowess and teamwork skills against their competitors in 20 challenging mini games in a bid to win a bespoke two feet high trophy donated by Tom Fell Blacksmiths.

Competitors from 12 companies participated in events including melon shot put, Bhutanese darts, pole walking and a sumo suit relay race.

The all-day charity challenge for corporate workers was designed and directed by Sussex-based adventurer and leadership coach Neil Laughton, of Laughton & Co, with event organiser Gemma King of Vivid Marketing, both volunteering their time and expertise.

Mr Laughton said: "My congratulations to Focus Group and I’m delighted that funds raised have exceeded £6,000 for Rockinghorse Children’s Charity with donations still coming in.

"Funds raised will be donated towards a special sensory room project for young people at the Drove Road centre in Portslade."

The centre offers residential and short breaks for children with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. The room will provide a multi-sensory experience for young people to enjoy, explore and learn in.

The Crazy Rockinghorse Sportathon champions were Focus Group, who also sponsored the event.

The event was compered by local entertainer Tom Foolery, with additional entertainment provided by UK Beatbox Championship finalist BeatFox, whose beatboxing talents have seen him tour with Jessie J.

BNI Hove Albion were awarded runners-up with XoomTalk Ltd taking third place and Skyfall Restaurant in Hove in fourth.

Justin Lloyd Estate Agents of Brighton were recognised on the day for their outstanding fundraising efforts.

Other businesses taking part included The Grand Brighton, MotoFX Sign-writers, Matthew Murphy Electrical, Palmer Capital and Lightfoot LED.
