POLICE were last night questioning a man after an explosion in a bar.

The men's toilets at The Shore bar in Seaford were blown up in a suspected attack on Thursday night.

Officers were first called to the scene in Dane Road just before 9.30pm after reports of a 'bomb'.

They found one of the cubicles in the toilets - just next to the main bar - completely destroyed with debris strewn across the room.

Eye witnesses said they saw a man enter the bar and make his way straight to the toilets before leaving immediately after. Officers launched a man hunt of the area after bar staff showed them CCTV footage of the incident which identified a suspect.

A 35-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, was still in custody last night, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

Officers think a firework caused the explosion.

Bar supervisor Heidi French said it was lucky no-one was injured.

The 27-year-old, of Seaford, was at work at the time of the explosion.

She said: "We had about 35 or 40 people in the bar. Everything was fine and then we heard a loud bang from the toilets.

"As I went to find out what happened a man walked past me away from the toilets and left.

"There was smoke everywhere. There was debris everywhere. One of the toilets was completely destroyed. No-one was in there at the time thankfully.

"We didn't evacuate but lots of people left. I think it was quite frightening and we called the police. It wasn't until we watched the CCTV that we thought the man I saw might be involved. We've never seen him before. He wasn't a customer and hadn't been in the bar before the incident.

"We have no idea why anyone would want to do this. We've never had any trouble before and we haven't had any threats."

Anyone with any information should call police on 101.
