A 47-YEAR-OLD man was found unconscious next to Brighton railway station.

He was unresponsive and not breathing when officers found him outside Budgens in Queens Road at 1.45am on Saturday.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he remained on a ventilator and under sedation on Saturday afternoon.

Police said it was not clear whether the man, from Bognor, had suffered a medical episode or had been harmed.

Detective Inspector Jason Hazzard said CCTV showed him sitting by a ledge by a nearby cash machine at about 1.37am, having missed a train home at around 12.30am.

He appeared intoxicated at that point, police said, and was discovered lying on the ground at the same place a few minutes later.

He is described as white, with long dark hair, believed to be in a ponytail and was wearing a Ghostbusters T-shirt with a dark jacket, blue jeans and white trainers.

Police appealed for anyone who can help them work out what happened to come forward.
