TWO men are believed to have carried out a distraction burglary, stealing thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.

The pair called at the address in Sompting Road, Worthing, where they claiming to be dropping off materials for work being carried out in the back garden.

One of the men kept the victim talking while the other was left unattended.

After they both left, the victim went upstairs and found that around £4,500 worth of jewellery including necklaces, bangles and rings had been stolen.

One of the suspects was white, between 25-30-years-old, around 5'5” and of average build with short hair. He was wearing a dark jacket and spoke with a European accent.

The other suspect was white, between 40-45-years-old, around 6' and of muscular build with an English accent.

Police Investigator Tom Carpenter of Sussex Police said: "Sompting Road is a busy thoroughfare and I would be very keen to speak with anybody who was in the area at the time and saw any suspicious people or vehicles.

"I would also be keen to speak with the owners of any vehicles fitted with dash cams that were in Sompting Road between 2pm and 3pm that afternoon.”

The incident took place on Tuesday, October 18.
