CAMPAIGNERS have taken a petition calling for Southern to be sacked from running the county's rail franchise to Number 10.

Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Lewes Kelly-Marie Blundell joined party colleagues including MP Tom Brake to deliver a petition of more than 3,000 signatures to Downing Street this morning.

The signatures were collected online and in person from constituencies along the Southern Rail network which runs from London Victoria down to Sussex coastal towns.

Separate petitions calling for a formal review of Southern and for the franchise to be taken away on the UK Government and Parliament Petitions webpage both attracted more than 12,000 signatures.

Meanwhile, rail commuters have just days left to have their say on changes to train timetables.

The Govia Thameslink Railway consultation on proposed timetable changes coming into effect in 2018 following the completion of the Thameslink Programme.

Among the concerns raised since its launch in September are the proposed cuts to services from Seaford to London.
