DANNY Mac remained top of the leaderboard for a fourth week in a row as he came one step closer to the Strictly Come Dancing final.

The former Hollyoaks actor, who grew up in Bognor, was in shock on Saturday night as he was scored two 10s for his Tango with dance partner Oti Mabuse, going through to next week's semi-final.

The pair achieved 38 for the snappy and sharp performance to One Night Only from the musical Dreamgirls, after ending the previous two weeks with perfect scores of 40.

He received high praise from the judges, with Len Goodman calling him "one heck of a dancer" and particularly admiring Oti's clever choreography.

But still Danny, 28, said he was surprised to learn he was marked so highly. Once the scores came in he told presenter Claudia Winkleman: "I honestly did not think I would get a 10 for that dance."

The last remaining female competitors, Louise Redknapp and Claudia Fragapane, came joint second, both scoring 37. Ore Oduba scored 36 for his Willy Wonka-inspired Foxtrot in the musicals-themed week but Judge Rinder came last with 31 points for his samba to December, 1963 (Oh What a Night) to the hit from the Jersey Boys - the musical story of band Franki Valli and the Four Seasons.

The judges criticised his technique but loved his energy, with Craig Revel-Horwood saying his "bottom was bouncing for Brazil."

Judge Rinder was then voted off in the dance off against Ore last night but said it was a "joy" to take part in the show and urged everyone to try out the pastime.

He said: "It's a joy to be here, every single person, there's too many people to thank but I even want to thank the judges.

"You are never too old to try something new and everyone should try dancing, thank you so much."

His dance partner Oksana Platero said her first season on the show had been an "unforgettable time".
